The Blanton Family

Blanton Family Reunions

What began as a way for family to stay in better contact has turned into a larger tradition than the Big Nine may have imagined. If you've been to a Blanton Family Reunion, you probably have a few things that immediately come to mind. Those things might be rollerskating, corn hole, boiled peanuts, lazy days at the Woman's Club, and the yearly recap. Regardless of what things this reunion make you think of, there's something special about a family coming together for over 50 years in a row to celebrate their relationships. This is a space to share photos and stories from Blanton Family Reunions, past, present, and future. If you've a story or photos, email them to blantonbignine@gmail.com and we'll add it to this page of memories!

In 2017, we gathered in Cairo, Georgia, to have a family reunion that was similar to many others. There were the basic "musts" of the annual Blanton get-together, aside from a bright blue Lamborghini that is...but it felt very akin to previous reunions and comfortable because of that. But then we had a special experience: "The Big Nine" in the Zebulon. Carey and Dustin Blanton and Craig Anglin, along with a host of others, hosted us in the Zebulon theatre to tell a story through film about the lives of the Big Nine, and how they came to start this wonderful event that we get to benefit from every year.

It was a beautiful story and a wonderful time to tell it. For the younger and newer members of the family, we learned and became acquainted with the Big Nine through film, learning about their lives, passions, and why they wanted to stay connected. For the veteran Blanton family, we were reminded of their kind faces and the reason that we continue on the traditions of those before us.

We laughed, we cried, we met and remembered the family that led us inevitably to that theatre to hear their story told through their descendants. It was a special time. Here's to many more years of memories and laughter and reunions with the Blantons.
