July 22 -25, 2021
Oyster Roast
Jan 15, 2022
The Blanton "Big Nine" began the tradition of a yearly reunion in Cairo, Georgia, generations ago, and it's a tradition that carries on today. Despite being spread across the world, we gather still to spend time together eating good food, playing corn hole, and catching up on life.
Every year at family reunion you can go check out the books and timelines detailing the genealogy of the Blantons, tracing it back all the way to the Mayflower. It's always fun to look back on where you've been as you think about where you're going!
Whether it's your first time spending time with the Blanton clan or you've been a part of the family for years, it doesn't take long to recognize that the Blantons know food. Recipes have been passed down and shared around for generations, so if you're wanting to make a classic sopping biscuit or Hank's Hushpuppies, this is the place for you to learn all you can so you can one day perfect Frances' Christmas Day Soup and use all the vegetables in your possession.
What better way to bring everyone together than some good food, healthy competition over corn hole, and a recap of the past year after the talent show? Nothing! And so family reunion continues on in Cairo with good times and good company.
Big Daddy (Ed Blanton) hosted the oyster roast in Brunswick, Georgia, for years and the other annual Blanton event centered around tasty food and time together remained there until the last few years, where it has been relocated to Niceville, Florida. It's always nice to see each other, so we do it twice a year with this one focusing on all-you-can-eat oysters!

In 2017 at the 60th Blanton Family Reunion, a new film highlighting the history of the Big Nine was unveiled at the Zebulon Theater in Cairo. The film brought a heartwarming memory to the origin of the BFR and its creators. This wonderful movie was put together thanks to the hard work of Dustin and Carey Blanton and Craig Anglin, along with everyone else who participated in interviews. And now you can watch the film online just by clicking below!
